Trialogue has performed widely, at venues including: London Jazz Festival (EKLEKTIC), Cambridge Jazz Festival, 606 Club, Caius Jazz Concert Series (supporting Stan Sulzmann & Nikki Iles Duo and The Matt Ridley Quartet).
Our debut album ‘First Flight’ will be released in 2018.
Trialogue was conceived in 2015, comprising three Cambridge scientists: neuroscientist and Dankworth Prize winner Chris McMurran (piano), physicist Arvin Vaghela (bass), and biologist Alexander Blackwell (drums).
Trialogue is the product of our shared vision and our constant drive for progress. It is as much the product of our differences as our similarities. Central to our work is the musical world of the piano trio, a format with seemingly endless soundscapes. For us, this ensemble allows the greatest amount of musical conversation and discussion: a trialogue. We are conscious to pay tribute to the legacy of the piano trio, as well as to stretch its possibilities. In this endeavour we have a lifetime of work ahead of us. Our music comprises both original compositions and the reimagining of standards and other melodies. Our compositions draw on influences including Brad Mehldau, J.S. Bach, EST, Avishai Cohen, and Alfred Schnittke.
